Amendment X

This article is about the argument that under the 10^th amendment states has the right to legalize marijuana.  

This connects to the 10^th amendment because the 10^th amendment list the powers of the states that the united states as a whole do not have . This argument in this article that marijuana should be illegal in all states but this is a violation to the 10^th amendment because the states have the right to have their own laws. Banning medical marijuana in all states can be looked at as unconstitutional because the states have the right to legalize marijuana if they want to or not.

I think that banning medical marijuana in all states is wrong and is taking the states power to have a decision in their government. If the 10^th amendment says that its ok to make state laws then the government can not come back in and say wait you can’t do that.

Amendment II: right to bear arms

Supreme Court denies Chicago’s appeal to ban handguns. There is constant debate about the 2^nd amendment upholding the right to have guns for self defense but there is also argument saying that the main source of violence and death in Chicago is gun violence. Supreme Court resists saying ok to Chicago’s ban of handgun because they argue that the right to self defense is part of the constitution.

This article demonstrates the 2^nd amendment in action because it show how the banning of handguns are unconstitutional because they violate the right to self defense, connecting to the right to bear arms. The Chicago ban of handguns has banned possession of almost all privet handguns in Chicago homes and some suburbs.

In my opinion the Chicago ban against handgun is wrong but only should apply to people who are not licensed to handle and have a handgun in their home. This constant debate of gun violence and how it should be dealt with is on going and no one knows the real solution to this issue. I believe self defense is a good thing and should never be taken away but what I don’t believe is that the reasons why all the gun violence is happening because people have guns in their homes.

Amendment I

 This political cartoon shows a man in jail with little space in his jail cell and a shackle on his tongue. This portrayal of a man with his tongue shackled shows that most times we are censored and unable to really express how we feel. Also he stands in one spot, not being able to move, this could show that because his right to expression is limited he is limited in action.  This could be related to the media, writings, or even in classrooms. The fact that if you speak out to much you could end up in jail, where you will be shut away shows a clear abuse of the first amendment.

The 1^st amendment gives the right to have the freedom of speech, expression, religion, assembly, and petition. This cartoon relates to the 1^st amendment because it shows a violation of the freedom of expression and speech. The man was shut up by being incarcerated and his tongue shackled. Even though people are not put in shackles for speaking out, this shows a valid example of how freedom of expression would be taken away. Another good example of this would be when people are incarcerated because they are expressing them selves through peaceful petition and assembly to make a point. This is also a violation of the 1^st amendment because the 1^st amendment clearly gives the right to of petition and assembly.

In my opinion I believe that the 1^st amendment was a good idea and when it is violated, that is unconstitutional. I believe everyone has the right to speak and act on their on to an extent. As long as the petition, assembly, or speech does not involve violence it should be ok. Offense is taken on it’s on of the individual who decides to get offended by the act or words of the person or persons that decide to act on their rights of the 1^st amendment. No one has the right to stop anyone from feeling the way they feel.
